Lately it has occurred to me, that since Ruby has been born, I can count on my fingers how many times in the last year I have gone out and done something for myself.....last April I got my haircut, March I had a massage, and December my sister-in-law bought me a fantastic pedicure. Needless to say, me time was way overdue. It's just been busy between my work, and Eric's school and work. We tend to have opposite schedules. I was so excited to plan a date for myself. I decided I was going to go get a pedicure. I planned this for almost 2 weeks. Yesterday arrived, I drove to the place which did walk-in's, and of course I peeked into the window and the entire floor was ripped up. A man came to the door "Sawree...not for couple days". Yes, I left rather deflated and got home jumped into bed with Ruby and sulked for 5 minutes. It was nap time.
Here are things I no longer take for granted, Mommy style:
1. Hot showers by yourself. You know you need me time, or are a mother, when you lock the door to the bathroom when your husband gets home and take a hot shower and you never want to leave it.
2. Sleep...uninterrupted
3. Cleaning and having it stay clean. Put the Tupperware away... go put something else away...return to more Tupperware and spices thrown on the floor...clean it up....fold laundry....have it thrown on the floor while you go to the bathroom. Return to kitchen with more Tupperware and spices. REPEAT.
4. Fixing my hair and make-up....no more spending an hour on that stuff. It's a good day if my hair gets brushed and I can get cover up on my zits (which I thought you aren't suppose to have by this age) and on the dark circles under my eyes.
5. Getting dressed up....yes I am still wearing my brothers brown boots that are 2 sizes too big and that he wore in high school to home coming as Captain John Smith. This just makes me laugh writing that.
6. Going on dates with Eric. It almost happened...I was going to ask if he wanted to go on a date to WINCO, we are out of food...but that didn't even happen.
7. Going to the full 3 hours of church and being able to pay attention to it all. Sacrament consists of dragging your child by their leg out from underneath the pews she keeps crawling under, repeat 10x, "kitty's dance routine", and reading/eating books. Sunday school is snack time/nap time which means cry time. Relief Society is Ruby's bored time and will no longer sit in your lap or play with her toys. We sometimes end up in the mother's lounge so she can run around and I can listen to the speakers from the other sacrament meeting. Which can turn into awkward "play dates" when Ruby sees other babies and wants to play but they are nursing and its freaking the new breastfeeding Mommy's out.
8. WARNING this one is PG-13: Sex. Eric says it turns into ABC after a kid (anniversaries, birthdays, and Christmas) but who is he kidding....Christmas...yeah right.
9. Going out to eat. Ruby likes to wriggle her way out of the straps in the highchairs and stand up, stick her hand in your drink, grab your food as fast as she can and throw it on the floor all in 10 seconds, and eat the crayons and coloring sheets. BUT not eat any of the food that you got for her.
10. And last but not least....FAMILY. No matter what 1-9 are, and they are always changing......I wouldn't change a thing. I love my family more then anything, even if that means I only get to do something for myself 3 times a year :)
